The main goal of all gearboxes is to most effectively transfer the engine energy to the wheel. At the moment, 3 types of checkpoints were invented: 1. Mechanical (manual transmission) 2. Automatic (automatic transmission) 3. Variator Description, advantages and disadvantages of the checkpoint of the mechanical gearbox at the moment is the most common. It is attributed to step boxes. Simply put, the torque of such a checkpoint is measured by steps. Depending on the number of such steps on the gearbox, there are 4, 5 and 6-speed. Step (or transmission) – a pair of interacting gears. Thus, the gearbox device consists of gears of different diameters that twist the driven shaft. The advantages of such a gearbox are: 1. Simplicity in maintenance2. Accessibility of consumables3. Higher reliability4. Less car weight compared to automatic transmission5. Higher efficiency is considered disadvantages: 1. The risk of overloading the transmission and engine2. Lower level of convenience when driving in comparison with automatic transmission3. It is impossible to smoothly change the gear ratio4. It is difficult for a beginner to choose the optimal program. The description, advantages and disadvantages of the automatic transmission of the automatic gearbox are absent from the traction, since the transfers of the gears is carried out by pressing the hydrotransformer to the flywheel and unclenching the cylinders. This type of checkpoint is quite convenient when driving in the city, but it is necessary to monitor the fuel level. The advantages of automatic transmission are: 1. The optimal engine operating mode2. Easy control for any movement modes3. Quick addiction to the driving style. Disadvantages: 1. The complexity of the design and the higher service cost2. There is no possibility of braking by engine3. Below the acceleration dynamics compared to the manual transmission4. Higher fuel consumption5. Lower power description, advantages and disadvantages of a stranded gearbox. The main difference of the variator is the lack of gears. The variator device consists of 2 shafts, larger and smaller. At first, most of the shaft rotates the smaller, and then – the smaller rotates the larger. Thus, the torque is transmitted smoothly, and the car accelerates without any jerks. The advantages of such a gearbox are the smoothness of the car and the low fuel consumption, but it is very expensive to maintain.
