Adobe has unveiled a new mobile Photoshop app that is as close to the desktop version in functionality as possible. It is already available for iPhone, and the Android version will be released later this year.
Previously, users had access to Photoshop Express, a simplified version of the service released in 2010. However, the new app is much more powerful and includes many familiar features, such as layers, masks, selection tools, and image composition. The free version provides access to the Spot Healing Brush, Quick Selection, as well as Firefly AI-powered features – Generative Fill and Generative Expansion. There is also integration with other Creative Cloud services.
Advanced features, including Object Selection, Magic Wand, Content-Aware Fill, and Clone Stamp, are available with a subscription for $8 per month or $70 per year. It also opens access to the web version of the service. All current Photoshop subscribers automatically receive access to the premium version of the mobile app.
It’s unclear what Adobe plans to do with two editors for smartphones at once – Photoshop Express and the new version of Photoshop. However, the release of a full-fledged mobile client seems like a logical step, given the growing competition from Canva and Apple, which recently acquired Pixelmator.
