In countries, somewhat more developed than Ukraine, mass trips or motorcycle ranges are ordinary. But nevertheless, what happened to the last weekend of Augustus in Brussels attracted the attention of the world community. Motorocyclists from all of Europe came here in order to take part in Euro Demo, a rally organized by FEM (the Federation of European motorcyclists), on which bikers from different countries show solidarity in the struggle for their rights. As you know, some new laws adopted by the European Parliament, based in Brussels, are discriminatory against motorcyclists and pose a serious danger to the traditions preserved and cultivated by decades. If in the United States, bikers are fighting against the law on the obligatory wearing of helmets (and in some states this struggle has been crowned with success!), then in Europe the situation is more serious. In the European Parliament, laws on the ban on alterations and modification of motorcycles, limiting power and noise of engines, on mandatory wearing of special vehicles for motorcyclists, phased licensing and, finally, the last trouble – on the installation on motorcycles of a special air pillow, which, like automobile, should work, are adopted. With a direct collision.
Often the effectiveness of equipment, in an orderly imposed by motorcyclists supposedly for their good, is a very dubious. But since the game includes the financial interests of manufacturers of this equipment, motorcyclists become hostages of these financial and political battles.
Not wanting to put up with such a position, several national organizations of motorcyclists eight years ago united in the Federation of European motorcyclists, which is on the lobby of the lobby in the European Parliament. Having their working groups, experts and lawyers, Fem thus opposes the adoption of discriminatory laws. The apogee of this daily intense activity, this invisible part of the iceberg, is the Joes of Euro Demo. They are held every two years, each time in the new country. The last euro demo, held in Paris in 1994. collected about 25,000 motorcyclists from all over Europe.
